Raw/Steamed Brinjal/Eggplant Chutney


  1. 1 large Eggplant
  2. 1 tsp. Tamarind Paste (homemade) or equivalent amount of lemon juice if tamarind is not available. ( I just steam a bit of tamarind with eggplants. I do not make pulp before hand ).
  3. 2-4 Garlic Cloves
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Pinch of Turmeric Powder
  6. 1/4 cup Cilantro chopped
  7. 3-5 Curry Leaves
  8. 2 tbsp. Cold pressed organic oil.
  9. ½ tsp. Mustard Seeds
  10. ½ tsp. Cumin Seeds
  11. ¼ tsp. Fenugreek Seeds
  12. 1 tsp. Coriander Seeds
  13. 1 tbsp. Sesame Seeds.


Optionally steam eggplant pieces lightly. Optionally steam garlic cloves if you are not used to eat raw garlic.

Grind all seeds in a mortar or grinder.
Grind ground seeds and rest of the ingredients together.
And you are done!

Eat with crackers, bread, rice, Idli, Dosa or as is.
